A Closer Look at… Palm Scanning Technology School nutrition operators can help students through the lunch line faster and more efficiently with state-of-the art palm scanning technology featured in MCS Software’s Newton Point-of-Sale System. MCS Software collaborated with Fujitsu to pilot the new integrated identification approach for school meal programs in the 142-school Pinellas County (Fla.) school district. The palm-vein scanning system, which uses Fujitsu’s PalmSecure™ technology, is now available nationwide. The palm scanning sensor uses a near-infrared light scan to capture and store a student’s palm vein pattern, unique biometric template. Students scan their hands for a quick match with the stored palm vein pattern. The technology doesn’t require students to touch the equipment, making it more hygienic and faster than other types of biometric sensors. The Pinellas pilot showed a 98% identification accuracy rate, as well as a 50% decrease in student wait times. To learn more about palm scanning technology from MCS Software, visit www.mcssoftware.com or call (888) 287-6416.
