The State Bar Board of Directors approved the nominations of Steve Bolden of Dallas and Lisa Tatum of San Antonio as president- elect candidates at its meeting in Bastrop on Jan. 20. Texas lawyers will vote for the president-elect during an April election. The lawyer chosen will serve a one-year term as president-elect from June 2012 to June 2013, and then will serve as president of the State Bar of Texas from June 2013 to June 2014. The State Bar president-elect candidates are recommended by the board’s Nominations and Elections Committee in accordance with a three-year rotating cycle between members in a metropolitan area (this year), non-metropolitan area, and an open year. Steve Bolden Dallas Steve Bolden is a shareholder in Mahomes Bolden, P.C. in Dallas, where he focuses on corporate and bond transactions. Prior to joining Mahomes Bolden, P.C., he practiced at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P. and Jackson Walker, L.L.P. Bolden served on the State Bar Board of Directors, Nominations and Elections Subcommittee, and Policy Manual Subcommittee and chaired the Section Representatives to the Board Committee. He also served on the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) Board of Directors and currently serves as a trustee on the Dallas Bar Foundation Board, where he chairs the Collins Clerkship Program. Bolden has chaired the State Bar African American Lawyers Section and serves on the Business Law Section Council. He has received a J.L. Turner Legal Association Presidential Citation and a DBA Presidential Citation. Bolden served as president of the J.L. Turner Legal Association in 2008. He received his A.B. in government from Dartmouth College and his J.D. magna cum laude from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he was a member of the Board of Advocates. Lisa Tatum San Antonio Lisa Tatum is the founder and owner of LM Tatum, P.L.L.C. (the Tatum Law Practice) in San Antonio, where her practice focuses on corporate, education, employment, and public finance law. Tatum served on the State Bar Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Budget Committee, and Audit and Finance Committee. She served as chair of the Discipline and Client-Attorney Assistance Program Committee and currently serves as vice chair of the Commission for Lawyer Discipline. She has been awarded a State Bar Presidential Citation and Outstanding Third- Year Director Award. She is a past president and former director of the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association; past chair and vice chair of the State Bar African American Lawyers Section; and a member of the Bexar County Women’s Bar Association. She is also a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, American Bar Association, and National Bar Association. Tatum received a B.A. in government from Smith College and her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, where she was inducted as a national member of the Order of Barristers.
