NATIONAL MOOT COURT CHAMPIONS South Texas College of Law students won the Andrews Kurth Moot Court National Championship in January, besting 16 other teams along the way. South Texas’ winning team (from left), brief writer Andrew Bender, Coleman Proctor, and Callin Kerr, defeated St. Louis University School of Law in the final round, which was judged by members of the Texas Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. Bender also received the award for best written brief. The South Texas team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, Lecturer Rob Galloway, and Houston attorneys Andrew Pearce and Kristina Keramati. TBJ BOARD OF EDITORS TALKS TO SMU LAW STUDENTS Students in the Intellectual Property Association at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law had the opportunity to listen to members of the Texas Bar Journal Board of Editors talk about social media, blogging, and the law on Feb. 7. The board of editors met as guests of Prof. Xuan-Thao Nguyen, who arranged the panel discussion. Board of Editors Chair Michael Smith of Marshall was joined on the panel by Mitch Smith of Beaumont, John Browning of Dallas (who teaches on the topic at SMU), and Steve Fischer of Rockport. Discussion touched on the recent Troll Tracker litigation, dos and don’ts of lawyers as bloggers, and ethical considerations of monitoring jurors’ social media presence.
