Ingenuity Is Instrumental Engage your students during May’s National Inventors Month by encouraging them to write a description or draw a picture of a tool or process they dream of inventing— perhaps for the cafeteria! Display the answers along the serving line. Your school nutrition team also can get creative by introducing one or two new menu options throughout this month; highlight these dishes as your newest “inventions” and ask students for their feedback. And, of course, don’t forget to share all of the fun facts about inventions throughout history. For example, did your students know that Thomas Edison filed 1,093 patents during his lifetime? Or that the timeless Slinky® was invented almost 70 years ago, in 1945? For more fun facts, visit www.ideafinder.com/history.
