Howard Nations of the Nations Law Firm in Houston was inducted into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame. Nations was honored for a lifetime of service to the American public and the Constitution and for distinguishing himself as an advocate in the court room. Michele Wong Krause, owner of The Wong Krause Law Firm in Dallas, received the Louise B. Raggio Award from the Dallas Women Lawyers Association. Texas-licensed Michael W. Daniel Gilliam, judge of the Victoria County Court at Law No. 2, was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas School Safety Center Board. He will serve on the board until Feb. 1, 2013. South Texas College of Law became the first school to place first, second, and third in the American Society of Legal Writers’ Scribes competition. The Scribes award is given to authors of the best-written legal brief submitted in a national moot court advocacy competition. South Texas students authored eight of the 68 briefs entered in the competition this past academic year. James B. Sales, of counsel to Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. in Houston, received the 2012 J. Chrys Dougherty Good Apple Award from Texas Appleseed for championing access to justice and attorney involvement in pro bono service. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recognized 10 assistant attorneys general in the Child Support Division for their outstanding work on behalf of the children of Texas. Texas Appleseed awarded its 2012 Pro Bono Leadership Award to Baker Botts, L.L.P. for helping analyze the quality of education provided in county youth facilities and honored Locke Lord, L.L.P. and Jones Day for their pro bono service. Christopher B. Trowbridge, a partner in Bell, Nunnally & Martin, L.L.P., was named to the Dallas Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty” list for 2012 for his demonstrated commitment to the North Texas community. Benny Agosto, Jr., a partner in Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend in Houston, was named one of the 101 Most Influential Leaders by Latino Leaders Magazine. Sharon Millians, a partner in Kelly Hart & Hallman, L.L.P. in Fort Worth, was named chair of the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. Walter L. Sutton, Jr., associate general counsel — legal administration and external relations to Wal-Mart Stores, received a Presidential Citation from the American Bar Association for his contributions to the legal profession.
