Barger of Dallas was appointed to a three-year term on the Texas Access to Justice Board of Directors. Scott McElhaney, of Jackson Walker, L.L.P., has been elected presidentelect of the Dallas Bar Association. Cliff Ernst, of Graves, Dougherty, Hearon & Moody in Austin, has been named chair of the board of trustees for the Long Center for the Performing Arts for 2012-2013. Steve Fogle, a partner with Jackson Walker, L.L.P., in San Antonio, was honored with the Association of Corporate Counsel – South/Central Texas Chapter’s 2012 Ethical Life Award for his strong commitment to ethics. The Texas Access to Justice Commission, in conjunction with the Texas General Counsel Forum, awarded the annual Magna Stella Pro Bono Award to Marathon Oil Company. Jennifer Nelsen, a Houston associate of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, L.L.P., was appointed to the Nature Discover Center’s Board of Directors. Baylor Law School won the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Tournament of Champions. In addition to winning the James Seckinger Trophy, which is given to the overall champion, the team also won the Professionalism Award. John G. George Jr., an attorney in the San Antonio office of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, L.L.P., was elected president of the Defense Counsel of San Antonio for the 2012-2013 term. Louis Pirkey, founding partner of Pirkey Barber, P.L.L.C., in Austin, received the International Trademark Association 2012 President’s Award. Jason Billeck has been named partner of Complex Commercial Litigation for the Houston office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, L.L.P. Bill Powers, president of the University of Texas at Austin, is the 2012 co-recipient of the John G. Fleming Memorial Prize for Torts Scholarship. Andrews Kurth, L.L.P., announced the election of six lawyers to the partnership: Stephanie C. Beauvais, Peter A. Bogdanow, Bud Doxey Jr., Georgia L. Lucier, Angela T. Richards, and Mark A. Shoffner. Jesse R. Pierce, founder and managing partner of Pierce & O’Neill, L.L.P., in Houston, was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America. Thomas John Turner, a partner with Cain & Skarnulis, L.L.P., in Austin, was appointed as a public member of the Texas Real Estate Commission.
