Judge Judy Warne, presiding judge of the 257th Judicial District Court, was named Jurist of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for exceeding the requirements of her position and performing extraordinary service to better the practice of family law. Justice Douglas S. Lang, of the 5th District Court of Appeals, received the Citation of Merit, the highest award conferred by the University of Missouri School of Law. Dan C. Perry, owner of Dan C. Perry, Attorney at Law & Mineral Management, was elected to the Santa Fe Opera Board of Directors for a three-year term. Jeffrey A. Ford, a shareholder in Ford Nassen & Baldwin, was named 2013 Dallas Construction Law Lawyer of the Year by The Best Lawyers in America. Umeka A. Lewis, of The Escobar Lewis Law Group, received the Steve Condos Most CLE Hours Award from the College of the State Bar of Texas. George W. Mauzé II, of Mauzé Law Firm, was invited into the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers for his superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership. M. Mitchell Moss, attorney with the ScottHulse Law Firm, was elected as Texas Association of Defense Counsel director for El Paso. The Texas chapter of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys received the Outstanding Chapter Award for excellence in providing resources, education, and leadership to its members and the health care and legal communities. Cecily Shull, of Midland, received the 2012 Midland Volunteer of the Year Award from Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas Midland office for taking pro bono cases for legal aid. James A. Daross, a managing attorney in the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. The award is the second-highest award bestowed by the Department of Justice. Judge John J. Specia Jr. (Ret.), senior district judge of the 225th District Court and a partner in Plunkett & Gibson, was appointed commissioner of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Jerry Fazio, a shareholder in Owen & Fazio, P.C., was honored with the 2012 Texas Association of Defense Counsel President’s Award for his leadership, service, and dedication to the organization. Lauren E. Waddell, founder of The Waddell Law Firm, P.C., in Houston, has become a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Bill Keffer, owner of William R. Keffer, P.C., was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to be a representative from Texas on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Charles W. Matthews, retired vice president and general counsel to Exxon Mobil Corp., was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Ex-Students’ Association of the University of Texas at Austin for his professional distinction and service to the university. Taralynn Mackay, a partner in McDonald, Mackay & Weitz, L.L.P., Rosemary McCarthy, of Houston, and Melinda Mitchell Jones, of Lubbock, have been appointed to the American Association of Nurse Attorneys Board of Directors. Ann Ryan Robertson, counsel at Locke Lord, L.L.P., was elected trustee of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a United Kingdom-registered nonprofit that offers training and education in dispute resolution through its network of branches. She is the first woman selected from the Americas region. Elizabeth Asher, of Elizabeth Asher, Attorney at Law in Houston, was recognized by the Houston Bar Association Animal Law Board and Animal Law Section as co-founder of non-profit Rescue Bank, and for outstanding community service to the animal-welfare community. Neil J. Orleans, a partner in Goins, Underkofler, Crawford & Langdon in Dallas, was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the City of Richardson as a member of the City of Richardson’s Arts Commission from 2003 through 2012. Vester Hughes, a partner in K&L Gates, L.L.P., in Dallas, was honored with the 2012 Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Award by Dallas Baptist University. Jordan W. Cowman, a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig in Dallas, was elected the 2013 president of the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation and will serve as chairman of the organization’s board of directors in 2014.
