Supreme Court Justices Sworn in, Honored at Ceremony The investiture ceremony for the two new Texas Supreme Court justices — Jeffrey S. Boyd (left) and John P. Devine (right) — was held Monday, Jan. 14, at the State Capitol. The event also included current Justices Nathan L. Hecht and Don Willett taking the oath of office to start their new terms. In addition, outgoing Justices Dale Wainwright and David M. Medina were honored for their service on the Texas Supreme Court. Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson gave the tribute for Wainwright, while Justice Hecht presented Medina’s recognition. The ceremony included comments by Gov. Rick Perry, who swore in the four justices, and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a former Texas Supreme Court justice. Senior Judge Thomas M. Reavley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit presented Boyd, and Houston attorney Mark Lanier presented Devine. TYLA Hosts ‘Ladies Night Out’ On Dec. 3, the Texas Young Lawyers Association hosted “Ladies Night Out” for the Bastrop Family Crisis Center. They previewed TYLA’s Healing the Wounds video, which overviews what victims of domestic violence can expect when utilizing the court system, and TYLA directors and officers answered questions on obtaining a protective order and filing a temporary restraining order. The women were also treated to dinner and pampering by hair and make-up consultants. The Austin Young Lawyers Association donated backpacks, which were filled with goodies for women and children attending the event.
