Smith Regents Professor of Law at Texas Tech University School of Law, received the 2012 Excellence in Writing Award for the Best Cutting Edge Article—Trust & Estate. Joshua R. Leal an associate of Showalter Law Firm, has assumed responsibility as president of the Fort Bend County Bar Association. Darby Dickerson dean of Texas Tech University School of Law, received the inaugural Darby Dickerson Award for Revolutionary Change in Legal Writing. The award will be given periodically to recognize those who have made fundamental and essential contributions to the field of legal writing. PJ Putnam Jana Ferguson Richard Cheng Tara Weilbacher and Kelly Turner were elected to serve as officers of the Dallas–Fort Worth chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel for 2013. Texas-licensed Walter Sutton associate general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville, Ark., received the 2013 Spirit of Excellence Award from the American Bar Association Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. The award celebrates the accomplishments of lawyers who promote a more racially and ethnically diverse legal profession. Hon. Darlene Byrne Michelle Cheng Karen Langsley and Cameron Vann received the Pathfinder Award by the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association. The award recognizes women who have demonstrated outstanding service to the legal community. Texas-licensed Eric O. English managing partner of Resolution Strategies, L.L.P., in Portland, Ore., was named chair of the Settlement Counsel Subcommittee of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the American Bar Association Litigation Section.
