James W. Mehaffy a solo mediator at James W. Mehaffy Mediation in Beaumont, received the Sir William Blackstone Award from the Jefferson County Bar Association. The annual award recognizes a member who demonstrates consistent ability, integrity, and courage as a lawyer. James J. Lee a partner in Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P., in Dallas, was selected for fellowship in the Litigation Counsel of America, a national honorary trial lawyer society. Selection is based on excellence and accomplishments in litigation at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation. Debra Ibarra Mayfield judge of the Harris County Civil Court at Law No. 1, and Meca Walker associate judge of the 247th District Court in Houston, were named among Texas Executive Women’s 2013 Women on the Move. The 10 women chosen exemplify the best of Houston’s top female leaders. Duane O. Juvrud owner of Duane O. Juvrud, Attorney at Law in El Paso, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, El Paso Downtown Lions Club. The fellowship award is the club’s highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Craig W. Weinlein a partner in Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, L.L.P., in Dallas, was named chairman of the board of directors and chairman of the executive committee for the Sedona Conference, a nonprofit research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights. Paula Fisette Sweeney of counsel to Slack & Davis, L.L.P., in Austin, was named Trial Lawyer of the Year, a lifetime achievement award, by the Dallas Bar Association. Marina De La Garza an attorney with De La Garza Law Firm, P.C., in Plano, was named 2013-2014 president of the Junior League of Collin County, an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
