Animal Magnetism Already a pet owner? Likely you agree with research findings linking an animal companion to a variety of therapeutic benefits, including decreased stress. Later this month, in honor of National Kids and Pets Day (April 26), give students the opportunity to pay tribute to their special pets. Ask them to draw a picture or write a short description about a beloved pet and display these artistic expressions throughout the cafeteria. (For kids without pets at home, suggest they draw or write about an imaginary or most-desired furry, feathered or scaly friend.) Use cafeteria display areas, the take-home menu and social media to share fun pet facts. (Did you know dogs only sweat through the pads of their feet? Or that cats can jump as much as seven times their height?) Type “pet trivia” in your favorite Internet browser to find other fascinating facts!
