HELLO AGAIN Faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase. —Martin Luther King Jr. AS I SIT HERE, THE REALITY THAT THIS IS MY LAST CORRESPONDENCE SETTLES IN. I am comforted by the fact that I have done my best to be an effective communicator and servant leader. I will not run down a list of what I have done or what I can claim as mine. Everything accomplished over the course of my tenure has been achieved through the work of many hands. And I applaud all who joined in the effort. My work is far from over, though. My commitment to the community in which I live continues for as long as I walk this earth. I will serve on the board for one more year as your immediate past president. It is a seat I look forward to occupying since there has been such wonderful hype about the perspective that comes with it. From there, I will work in support of our bar and survey the landscape for what is to come. The most rewarding thing about all of this—the remainder of my term as president, my tenure on the board, and my involvement with the bar— is working with some truly amazing people who also happen to be pretty remarkable lawyers. As long as I remain engaged in our legal community, this will never go away. As long as we continue to care for one another and our community, it will be difficult for anyone to assert that our association should no longer exist. We are a stellar organization, a national and, perhaps, even a world-class model. We work hard. We do our jobs well. We care about our community and, as attorneys and as people, are mindful of the impact we have on the lives of others. I look forward to my remaining time in office. And I look forward to my ongoing work with you from a new vantage point. You are remarkable indeed. Truly amazing.
