Be Safe in the Rocket’s Red Glare Summer’s here, and that means it’s time for family vacations, picnics and holiday fireworks. Given the season, it’s only appropriate that June and July have been declared Fireworks Safety Months. If you or your family create your own show rather than attending a community-sponsored event, there are many tips to keep in mind before darkness falls. Make certain that only adults are allowed to handle or ignite these explosive devices. Never lean over or place a part of your body above a firework while lighting the fuse. Have a bucket of water or a working hose nearby. Forgo the fireworks altogether if the weather has been hot and dry for a long time—you don’t want to risk starting a wildfire! And, of course, make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them. For additional tips, visit http://tinyurl.com/stayingsafewithfireworks.
