BY STATE BAR OF TEXAS LEGAL ACCESS DIVISION, firstname.lastname@example.org State Bar sections crowned pro bono champions. In October 2013, the State Bar of Texas Legal Access Division launched the inaugural Pro Bono Challenge in an effort to recognize bar sections for pro bono participation, grow the competitive spirit among the sections, and enhance the culture of pro bono in Texas. The challenge appears to have worked—since it began, members assigned approximately 22,000 pro bono hours to their respective sections. The Legal Access Division congratulates the Family Law Section and Immigration and Nationality Law Section, winners of the 2014 challenge. Each year, the winning sections will receive trophies to memorialize their victories. The Pro Bono Challenge continues for this bar year and will end May 31, 2015. Members can log on to My Bar Page (texasbar.com/mybarpage), then click on the “Report Pro Bono Hours” link to add or designate pro bono hours. By submitting this information, members help highlight the importance of pro bono in meeting the legal needs of indigent Texans, provide much-needed support for funding requests for legal services programs, and improve the public perception of lawyers.
