Resolved: Make Every Day Count! Happy New Year! There are so many topics for this column that are racing through my mind. After all, each annual calendar flip from December to January brings so many possibilities. Plus, I realize that I’ve penned half of my columns as SNA president, and there is still so much that I want to share! Let’s begin with January 1. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I admit I’m conflicted about this tradition. Why wait for a specific day to resolve to learn, do or start something new? Why not commit to looking out for such possibilities— and following through—every day? This year, I resolve to look daily for opportunities to be better. I will seek new ways to lead my team to be the best that we can be to support our students; adopt new approaches to inspire SNA members around the country to step up and consider sharing their unique talents as Association volunteers; and seize every opportunity to show my family, friends and coworkers that I appreciate all they do to enrich my world! Those sound like pretty lofty goals, huh? I think we gotta big with this one life that we’re given. I plan to tape a copy of this list to the mirror and tuck another copy in my journal. This way, I’ll be reminded every morning of my intentions and every evening of my blessings. Now, onto that goal of encouraging future leaders: Congratulations to the winners of the SNA Board of Directors and Nominating Committee election (see the results on page 59). Plus, I want to thank all those who threw their hats into the ring for their willingness to step up and serve. I hope you do so again, as our Association needs many leaders. Indeed, I encourage each of you to make 2015 the year that you push yourself to a new level of service. Are you a chapter member? Maybe this is the year to volunteer as an officer. Do you serve on a state committee? Perhaps it’s time to explore national opportunities. Stay tuned for details about how these may change in the coming years. This month, prior to our School Nutrition Industry Conference (SNIC) in Phoenix, a large group of stakeholders will be participating in a Governance Modeling Summit, as one of the projects in the Association’s strategic realignment initiative. We will be reviewing our current governance structure and determining what changes might be necessary to assure SNA continues to be a nimble and effective organization in supporting its members. As we shiver through the cold and await the arrival of spring, I urge you to use this time in a positive way to engage and energize. I know that each of us can excel throughout 2015!
