Court of Criminal Appeals sees change Three judges of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals were sworn in during a formal investiture ceremony on Jan. 7 at the House Chambers of the Texas Capitol. Bert Richardson, Kevin Patrick Yeary, and David Newell, all of whom were elected to the bench by the public in November 2014, are the newest judges on the state’s highest criminal court. Judges Cathy Cochran, Tom Price, and Paul Womack, who decided not to seek reelection in 2014, were recognized during a reception on Dec. 11 at the Texas Law Center in Austin. Lone Star Legal Aid unveils Hall of Heroes In conjunction with its 65th anniversary, Lone Star Legal Aid recognized lawyers, judges, and community trailblazers at its Lex Legacy Luncheon on Dec. 3 at the Rice Hotel in Houston. During the event, the group revealed its Hall of Heroes, a portrait gallery featuring 65 individuals who have supported legal aid efforts. Dress for Success event raises more than $141,000 On Nov. 19, Gardere Wynne Sewell hosted A Night Out, an annual fundraiser in support of Dress for Success Houston. The event drew nearly 300 business and community leaders and generated more than $141,000, which will enable DFSH to provide business suits to disadvantaged women entering or returning to the workforce as well as fund professional development programs and scholarships. Gardere also supports the organization through mentoring and networking.
