Children’s Book Week Did you celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by serving green eggs and ham during National School Breakfast Week? Then allow yourself to be inspired by Children’s Book Week, May 4-10, 2015. Turn to the librarian to identify and borrow several classic children’s books, representing a range of tastes, whether these run to Anne of Green Gables, a Roald Dahl novel or the ever-delightful Corduroy. Ask students to vote on their favorites. Stage a “readin” in the cafeteria. Work with art classes to illustrate favorite scenes to be displayed on the cafeteria walls. And, of course, the possibilities for creative menu promotions are almost endless— celebrate picture books about food by naming items after Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, to name a few. No time to plan for this early-month event? Schedule your own date any time in May— and mark your calendar for next year’s event, May 2-8, 2016!
