Very Veggie The majority of your students gobble up turkey burgers, chicken stir-fry and roast beef sandwiches any chance they get. However, don’t overlook the needs of your vegetarian students—particularly during October, Vegetarian Awareness Month. While you might have missed it, October 1 marked World Vegetarian Day, while November 1 is celebrated as World Vegan Day. What’s the difference? Although preferences vary from person to person, vegetarians generally eat dairy and eggs, while vegans eschew all animal products from meat to dairy to honey to non-foods, such as leather. An estimated 5% of Americans call themselves vegetarians, while just 2% are vegan. To learn more about ways to observe this promotional event, visit www.worldvegetarianday.org.
