Healthy Trails to You If you’re getting on a plane, train or bus this holiday season, you’re not alone—and if you come down with a cough or runny nose a few days later due to the germs you might have picked up, you’re definitely not alone. Ward off an illness while traveling by packing a few accoutrements meant to keep you healthy. First, stash a hand sanitizer with at least 50% alcohol in your carry-on luggage. Although it’s no substitute for hand-washing, hand sanitizer can be a quick fix when you touch germy spots: ticket kiosks, bathroom door handles and security line bins, to name a few. Next, skip the sandals and don your socks when you’re going through security (even if you’re headed to a tropical destination!) in order to protect your feet from ickiness. Finally, bring a light shawl to use as a blanket and a travel pillow so you can catch up on sleep along the way. Traveling is exhausting, and a weary body is a vulnerable one.
