Every VOTE Counts! A Note to Vote After what may seem to many as a virtually endless build-up, the U.S. presidential election season officially begins this month, with the vast majority of states holding primaries or caucuses in February and March. Also, there’s another important election being held in February this year: the vote to determine the SNA Board of Directors, including its president (www.schoolnutrition.org/snaelection, February 15–29). Do you plan to cast your vote in both these upcoming elections? A shockingly large percentage—some 40%—of eligible Americans fail to vote in national elections, with even fewer participating in the decision to identify the top candidates through the primary process. Participation in SNA elections is even lower—a mere 5% of the total membership. Robust voter turnout is essential to a healthy democracy, and it is much lower in the United States than most other established democracies. Please don’t take this fundamental right and responsibility for granted in 2016. Make time, get engaged and recognize that this is your best opportunity to influence the direction of the future of SNA and your country.
