Pursuant to the Texas Supreme Court’s order of June 14, 2016 (Misc. Docket No. 169095), State Bar members were required to add an electronic service email address to their profiles on the State Bar website by October 1, 2016. For members who did not provide an electronic service address by that date, the email address on file with the State Bar was deemed to be the member’s electronic service address. If you would like to provide a different email address, please go to texasbar.com/eservice to update your electronic service address in your member profile. Any change to your electronic service address will be reflected in the state of Texas e-filing system within 24 hours. Below are answers to some common questions. I’m a State Bar member—what do I have to do to comply? Simply go to texasbar.com/eservice and provide the email address you would like to use as your electronic service address. Electronic service addresses went live in the e-filing system on October 1. If you did not designate an electronic service address by that date, your preferred email address currently on file with the State Bar was used as your electronic service address. You may update your electronic service address anytime at texasbar.com/eservice. What’s the purpose of this requirement? The requirement will improve the e-filing system by creating a single, official electronic service address for each State Bar member. Previously, the e-filing system was hampered by multiple accounts being created in some members’ names. The electronic service addresses will also enable local court systems to send official notices or other important communications to members, such as in the wake of a disaster. Update your electronic service address today at texasbar.com/eservice If you have questions or need more information, call (800) 2042222, ext. 1383, or email email@example.com.
