PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEE WHAT SIZZLED AT #ANC17 It was all about the hot topics (and the cool connections) for attendees in “HOTlanta” at SNA’s Annual National Conference (ANC) in July. Weren’t able to make it to the “Hottest Event in School Nutrition” this year? Or were you there, but were unable to get to every session you wanted to attend? Don’t fret! You can review many of the PowerPoint presentations online. SNA members who want to access and print materials from what sizzled at ANC, should visit http://tinyurl.com/ANC17-presentations. After you review the dozens of fantastic sessions offered this past summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you were feeling inspired to share your own expertise, innovations and ideas with your peers in school nutrition. There’s still time to submit a proposal to present at ANC 2018 in Las Vegas. For more information about the Call for Proposals or to learn how you can submit a presentation for consideration as a pre-conference workshop or education session visit www.schoolnutrition.org/cfp. The deadline is September 29 at 11:59 p.m. ET. SNA will also be accepting submissions for the 28th annual School Nutrition Research & Best Practices Showcase. If you would like to submit a poster idea for consideration, visit www. schoolnutrition.org/snshowcase. Don’t worry, SNA has you covered! From the Association’s flagship publication (School Nutrition), to its website (SchoolNutrition.org) to an array of informative targeted e-newsletters, bringing you the latest news and developments facing the school nutrition profession is our priority. Are you receiving these beneficial (and free!) resources directly to your email inbox? • SN Express: As an SNA member, if we have your current email address on file, you automatically receive this weekly digest of the latest child nutrition news every Wednesday. The October STEPS Challenge is coming up, which means you should be tallying your points and well on your way to completing the STEPS Challenge for September—“Get Back Into Exercise”. Now that you’re primed for making small changes to improve your health, you’ll be ready to tackle the October regimen: Avoiding the impending downpour of Halloween candy and filling up, instead, on fresh fall fruit. Apples and pears can satisfy your sweet tooth and, the more you eat, the more points you earn! Visit the “Submit Your Challenge Points” page found through the STEPS homepage, www.schoolnutrition.org/STEPS, and enter your October total by November 4 for an entry in the prize drawing for items such as a SpaFinder Gift Card or a Healthy Surprise Box! Five winners will receive prizes, along with one Grand Prize winner, with all winners announced May 9, 2018 after the STEPS Challenge has ended. Month-to-month tracking sheets and goals can be found on the “Monthly Challenges” section of the STEPS website. Remember: While an apple a day may (or may not) keep the doctor away, it sure tastes good. And the benefits to your health will certainly put a smile on your face—and maybe your doctor’s face, too! The STEPS Challenge Program is a personal wellness program created especially for SNA members by the Association, along with generous support from Jennie-O Turkey Store. SNA ELECTION SNA CALL FOR NOMINATIONS The 2018 SNA election nominations process is open! SNA is looking for members with strong leadership skills, outstanding professional achievements and a record of active participation both in their state association and at SNA to lead the association in the future. Do you know of such an individual(s)? Because it all starts with a nomination…help us identify SNA colleagues (or yourself) for open positions on SNA’s Board of Directors and the Leadership Development Committee. At the recent Annual National Conference in Atlanta, members of SNA’s Leadership Development Committee wore “SNA Talent Scout” buttons and spoke with various attendees about national leadership opportunities. They remain hard at work seeking members who are willing to serve at the national level. You can be an SNA Talent Scout, too! Have you observed leadership talent in your state or region? Or have you considered that your own leadership potential might allow you to grow professionally, bring your perspective to national issues and network with others? If so, now is the time to act before the September 29 deadline for nominations. Submit your own name or submit a colleague’s name for consideration. The slate will be announced later this fall, and the election will be held February 15-28, 2018. Turn your time and talent into action for the benefit of the school nutrition profession and your Association! Visit www.schoolnutrition.org/LeadershipOpp to learn more and to find out how to submit a nomination.
