» meet Keely Hoak SUPERVISOR » CHERRY CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT, GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLO. Q: How long have you been an SNA member and how many ANCs have you attended? A: I’ve been a member since I began working in school nutrition two-and-a-half years ago. I have been to ANC three times; my favorite was Atlanta last summer! I had the routine of the conference down, had more friends to catch up with and knew what to expect on the exhibit floor. I was incredibly impressed with Keynote Speaker Alex Sheen. I also really enjoyed “Hotlanta”: the food, the energy, the city—it was somewhere I had never been and I loved exploring. Q: How do you stay engaged with students? A: If I have a few minutes, I like to sit at a table of students and chat with them. Typically, we talk about school lunch, which items they love and maybe ones they aren’t so crazy about. The conversation always seems to shift and it never fails to be entertaining. I’ve learned about pets, weekend plans, hobbies, siblings—and even been asked if I am the principal! Q: What’s the best and worst thing about getting older? A The best is the experience, wisdom and confidence gained. The worst is how expensive anti-wrinkle creams are. Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? A: I always have a list of books I want to read, weird Netflix documentaries I want to watch and more workouts I want to squeeze in. Q: Do you have a dream dinner guest? A: I love Chrissy Teigen! She is hilarious, self-assured, witty and outspoken about what she believes in. She has a cookbook filled with mouthwatering recipes, like fried chicken wings with spicy honey butter. Yummmm. Q: What’s the top item on your bucket list? A: I have a secret desire to skydive, but am terribly afraid of heights. I would start shaking and crying like a little Chihuahua and would probably have to be pushed out of the plane. Still, it is something I have always wanted to do, especially over beautiful, natural scenery. Q: If you were granted three wishes, what would they be? A: To have an unlimited travel fund; for humans to stop committing acts of violence against each other and animals; and to have hair (on my head!) that grows really long, really fast. Q: Do you have any personal mottos? A: When I’m having a rough day, I like to go into the bathroom and mutter, “Not my circus, not my monkeys” to myself. It reminds me that I can’t control everything and to choose my battles. Q: What advice would you give your younger self? A: Be patient, be confident, try as hard as you can to be kind. Stop going to tanning beds. Also, body glitter is not a good look. Q: What are your goals for SY 2017–18? A: I want to be the best supervisor I can be to the schools I am responsible for. I want to be a confident, supportive, inspiring, motivating leader and contributor to my team.
