SUSTAINABILITY Message from the CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER A recent poll revealed that for the fi rst time in 25 years, a majority of Americans said that in the face of the economic downturn, growth should take precedence over environmental concerns. At RR Donnelley, we see the issue differently. We do not believe that sustainable practices are necessarily at odds with operating effi ciently. Instead, we see a link between the two. Reducing waste, using energy more effeciently, and reusing materials rather than just throwing them away all contribute to achieving better environmental outcomes and to reducing operating costs. That is why we have responded to the unprecedented economic conditions by accelerating many of our sustainability initiatives. You will read about some of the results in this report, as we describe programs that support our customers’ objectives and that refl ect our drive to enhance effi ciency. RR Donnelley’s presence and sustainability goals are far reaching. Across the world, they refl ect our commitments to our customers and to the communities in which our nearly 60,000 employees live and work. We look forward to working collaboratively with you to achieve results that enhance effi ciency and sustainability. Sincerely, Michael Manzella Chief Sustainability Offi cer Our Environmental Health & Safety Policy is to: Strive continuously to improve global Environmental Health & Safety performance by using practices that protect employees and the environment, including reducing the quantity of emissions, developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention and using paper, energy, and other resources more effi ciently. Message from the CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER

A recent poll revealed that for the first time in 25 years, a majority of Americans said that in the face of the economic downturn, growth should take precedence over environmental concerns.

At RR Donnelley, we see the issue differently. We do not believe that sustainable practices are necessarily at odds with operating efficiently.

You will read about some of the results in this report, as we describe programs that support our customers’ objectives and that reflect our drive to enhance efficiency.

RR Donnelley’s presence and sustainability goals are far reaching. Across the world, they reflect our commitments to our customers and to the communities in which our nearly 60,000 employees live and work.

We look forward to working collaboratively with you to achieve results that enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Sincerely,

Our Environmental Health & Safety Policy is to:
Strive continuously to improve global Environmental Health & Safety performance by using practices that protect employees and the environment, including reducing the quantity of emissions, developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention and using paper, energy, and other resources more effi ciently.

This policy informs and guides our Sustainability Leadership Committee, an internal multi-discipline team responsible for reviewing and approving initiatives relating to our company Sustainability Approach. RR Donnelley’s Sustainability Approach is refl ected in a variety of practices across four categories:

Resource Efficiency
We identify, measure, and continuously improve efficiencies associated with consumption and use of energy, raw materials, water and other resources. Through internal energy reduction projects we pursue, we continue to address climate change by reducing our carbon footprint to the furthest extent possible.

Waste Minimization
We seek to reduce environmental impacts across the entire scope of our service offering, which spans premedia, printing, binding, business services and distribution processes. Reduce, reuse and recycle describe a variety of practical, everyday actions that we take in our manufacturing, administrative, and service facilities.

Green Procurement
We extend our influence across the breadth of the supply chain by encouraging sustainable practices among our suppliers and enabling them for our customers. Our international Chain Of Custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) reflect this commitment to Green Procurement.

Stewardship
We strive to learn and share best practices through internal and external education, communication, and through demonstrations of our commitment and progress.

Sustainability on the Web: www.RRD.com/sustainability Available for review on our website at www.rrd.com/sustainability, information has been compiled to communicate our efforts in supporting the four categories of our Sustainability Approach, as outlined above.

Inks, Solvents, Adhesives, and other Raw Materials
RR Donnelley has specified Environmental Conditions for materials we purchase. All materials must conform to the lowest permitted content of heavy metals, as outlined in the Coalition of Northeast Governors (CONEG) Toxic Law.

These metals include: Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Hexavalent Chromium. We also require that there be no additions of these heavy metals in the manufacturing processes of any materials sold to RR Donnelley.

Additionally, as part of our commitment to the environment and our customers, it is our policy that no product manufactured by RR Donnelley will contain or be manufactured with a regulated Ozone Depleting Substance.
