COMPENDIUM June 2009—Volume 30, Number 5 From the Co-Editor Dear Readers, Previous limitations in traditional orthodontic techniques have often created barriers, preventing patients from taking full advantage of these opportu- nities. However, significant advancements have been made in orthodontic diagnostics and treatment with the advent of new technologies. This the- matic issue of Compendium was designed to incorporate some of the most exciting opportunities that are emerging in orthodontics for our patients. To provide the necessary expertise and to diffuse the considerable complexity, I asked Dr. Richard D. Roblee, who is a highly regarded practitioner, pro- fessor, and author, to serve as Guest Editor for this issue. He has assembled a range of interesting topics that include the origins of dental crowding and malocclusion, restorative measures to enhance esthetic outcomes during orthodontics (online only), and surgically facilitated orthodontic therapy. The boundaries of these possibilities are being stretched, making the myriad of orthodontic and surgical decisions much more confusing. This special issue of Compendium will address many of these concerns.
