BB Annual Report 2009 : Page 4
From the Executive Vice President Dear Friend: This has been a difficult year for nonprofit organizations, businesses, and families as well. The economic realities affected all of us. B’nai B’rith was not immune to these economic pressures. As with virtually every other organization, we had to go through some “belt tightening.” But, because of our outstanding staff and dedicated corps of volunteers, we were able to minimize the impact of these cuts. As you read the pages that follow, I am certain you will agree that B’nai B’rith continues to be an essential part of the fabric of today’s Jewish community. As we have for the last 165 years, we continue to fill a unique role, and to do it exceptionally well: • No other organization represents a broader cross section of the Jewish community. • No other organization can point to such a strong and effective network of members and staff experts in so many parts of the world. • No other Jewish organization better serves the needs of today’s senior citizens. • No other Jewish organization has the unique access we have at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Organization of American States, the European Union, and other organizations. • No other service organization can point to a longer record of serving local communities. • No other organization has been committed to the State of Israel for as many years. Because of these unique qualities and many more, we are the most widely known and respected name in the Jewish community. And that is a fact of which I am especially proud. It is because of the respect with which we are held around the world that we are able to achieve the impact we do. I see this over and over again when we meet with world leaders, ambassadors, legislators, and everyday people. I am certain that after reading the pages that follow you will share in my pride and commitment and will make a decision to lend us your support—either for the first time or as a returning donor. Sincerely, Daniel S. Mariaschin Executive Vice President 4 | 2009 Annual Report
