INDUSTRYNEWS California Dental Assistants Add Functions in 2010 According to the Dental Bureau of California, as of January 1, 2010, several new duties have been added to the RDAEF license in that state. These include: cement- ing endodontic master points and accessory points; polishing and contouring existing amalgam restora- tions; placing, contouring, finishing, and adjusting all direct restorations; adjusting and cementing perma- nent indirect restorations; and conducting preliminary evaluation of the patient’s oral health (including chart- ing, intraoral and extraoral evaluation of soft tissue, clas- sifying occlusion, and myofunctional evaluation). In addition, there are two new permit categories: the Orthodontic Assistant Permit and the Dental Sedation Assistant Permit. For further information, please visit www.dbc.ca.gov. ADAA Installs New Officers New officers of the American Dental Assistants Asso- ciation were installed at the annual conference of the ADAA held in Honolulu with the American Dental Association. The ADAA is America’s oldest and largest dental assisting organization speaking for over 250,000 dental assistants since 1924. During 2010, the officers will preside over Dental Assistants Recognition Week in March and the annual national Conference in Or- lando with the ADA.
