Wayne State Fall 2010 : Page 3

{ university and alumni impact I’m pleased to take the opportunity in this issue of Wayne State magazine to share some updates from campus as well as introduce interim President Allan Gilmour, who was appointed to the university’s top position on Aug. 30 of this year. During the short time that President Gilmour has been on campus, I’ve heard nothing but great things from our community — everyone from faculty, to business leaders, staff, students and our alumni — about his strategic and inclusive vision for the university as well as his ability to take on the tough challenges. His lengthy background, as a former Ford Motor Co. executive, brings a unique perspective to Wayne State. After earning degrees from Harvard University and the University of Michigan, he spent 35 years at Ford, many of those years in executive positions, yet he is humble and personable — traits that those on campus and throughout the community will surely come to appreciate during his time here. You can read more about President Gilmour and his vision on page 20 in this issue of the magazine. In this issue you will notice several new design applica-tions and aesthetic modifications that we now are utilizing in Wayne State magazine. Our editorial and design teams continue to strive to provide a fresh, relevant and cutting-edge publication and we look forward to this continued tradition. Also I’d like to remind you that starting this fall, we are celebrating the alumni association’s 75th year. In the next issue of Wayne State magazine, we’ll feature some of the events and programs that will commemorate this anniversary, and look at the history of the organization and its people. We have a lot of great things ahead, and I invite you join us as we celebrate this milestone. As always, I encourage each of you as alumni and friends of Wayne State to come back to campus. Continue to attend our alumni events and meet our deans, our faculty and our students. Most importantly, take the opportunity to see all of the great things happening at your alma mater and reconnect with your fellow alumni and classmates. Sincerely, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR I encourage each of you as alumni and friends of Wayne State to come back to campus. Christopher S.
