Connecticut Magazine - December 2016

President’s Message

Jerry Franklin 2016-11-21 22:28:51

For the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN), parent company of Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR), 2016 has been quite a productive year!

Throughout 2016, CPTV has produced or co-produced a number of original programs, including the new live music series The Kate, taped at Old Saybrook’s Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, and the scripted drama The Cobblestone Corridor, filmed on location in Connecticut and featuring local talent.

Additionally, CPTV showcased important issues by hosting televised town hall meetings like Communities in Crisis: Battling Connecticut’s Heroin Epidemic, a timely exploration of Connecticut’s heroin and opioid crisis.

CPTV also aired a new season of its national music series Infinity Hall Live, and launched the Infinity Hall Live Free & Easy Concert Series. This series of free concerts held at Infinity Hall in Hartford has already resulted in some great evenings of live music!

It’s been an exciting year for WNPR as well. The New England News Collaborative (NENC), which includes WNPR and seven other New England public media stations, was formed to explore key issues through a local lens, and the new radio program NEXT showcases the NENC’s reporting efforts. WNPR’s local focus was strengthened even further in 2016 with the premiere of The Radius Project, exploring Connecticut’s unique capital city.

CPBN is committed to promoting a sense of community here in the Nutmeg State. That’s why local programs, projects, and activities like these are so important to us. As the year draws to a close, we offer yet another opportunity: Join CPTV and the Yale Film Study Center on December 11 for a free screening and discussion of the film Meet the Patels, part of the Independent

Lens series. For more information on this event, visit CPTV.org. None of these community-based efforts would be possible without you, our members. Your continued support allows us to advance our offerings into the new year and beyond. We thank you so much for that support, and wish you a very happy holiday season.
